Distribution: Occurring east of the Cascades crest in Washington; Douglas County, Washington to California, east to Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Nevada, and Arizona.

Habitat: Dry, sandy places in the deserts and foothills.

Flowers: May-July

Origin: Native

Description:
General:

Dwarf, prostate, dichotomously-branched, taprooted annual, spreading-hairy throughout.

Leaves:

Leaves alternate, entire, oblanceolate, crowded toward the tips of the branches, up to 4 cm. long and 6 mm. wide.

Flowers:

Flowers solitary and terminal, subtended by a leaf, appearing to be in the forks of the branches; calyx 5-lobed, cleft nearly to the base; corolla white to lavender, funnel-shaped, 2.5-5 mm. long, the limb 1-3 mm. wide; style 0.3-1.5 mm. long, cleft only at the tip.

Fruits:

Capsule dehiscing along the midrib of each cell.
